Leadership Trip

  • Coombs Outdoors 335 South Millward Street Jackson, WY, 83001 United States (map)

Over the last few years we have worked hard to incorporate opportunities for students to grow from participants into talented and knowledgable leaders as they graduate from programs. For the first time ever we are hosting a Leadership Trip for high schoolers in the Empower program. This 3 day backpacking trip in Yellowstone’s Firehole Meadows was designed for high schoolers who are ready to take on some extra responsibility. The trip is an introduction to co-leading extended trips in the backcountry. Participants embarking on the Leadership Trip will learn risk mitigation skills, group management, and how to best support instructors and younger participants.

Later on in the summer, students who participate in the Leadership Trip will have the opportunity to assist Engage instructors on overnight trips, acting as student leaders, demonstrating their reliability and maturity. This trip is another element in the full circle system we have built into our programs to encourage more Coombs alumni to become experienced practitioners in the outdoor industry.
