Camina Conmigo

What We Do

One of the goals of Camina Conmigo hikes is to help Jackson's Latino workforce enjoy and connect with the beauty of the place where they live and work. We do this by providing our guides with all the training and resources they need to feel comfortable leading to other outdoor groups summers and winters.

Camina Conmigo’ mission is to inspire Spanish speaking adults in our community to experience the outdoors by centering education, skill development and relationship building on local excursions.

La misión de Camina Conmigo es inspirar a los adultos que hablan español en nuestra comunidad a experimentar el aire libre al centrar la educación, el desarrollo de habilidades y la construcción de relaciones en las excursiones locales.

Camina Conmigo’s vision is to empower people to overcome the financial, educational, and language barriers to outdoor recreation by creating safe and comfortable spaces for Latino adults. We aim to make the outdoors belong to everyone.

Meet Our Guias

  • Miriam Morillon Sanchez, founder and guía of Camina Conmigo. She is originally from Mexico City and has been living in Jackson, Wyoming since 1999. She started providing exercise classes in Spanish in 2018 here in Jackson. However, due to the 2020 pandemic it became virtual and she began to notice people started to become very worrisome and feeling down. At the climax of the pandemic, Norma, one of our other guias invited her to go hiking up Sheep Mountain. Miriam fell in love instantly and wanted to share this with her exercise group. She then started inviting more people to her hikes each time, and that is where Camina Conmigo began.

  • Norma Montiel Tzompa, one of the guias of Camina Conmigo. Norma is from Tlaxcala, Mexico & has lived in Jackson, Wyoming since 1995. She arrived at the age of 15 years old and attended Jackson Hole High School for a couple of years. After living in Jackson for many years, one day Norma got invited by a friend to go hiking up Snowking mountain. She didn't make it to the top. Her first hike ever was hard mentally and physically. But, this gave her a new devotion to hike all the way to the top of Snowking mountain the fallowing year. The next year, Norma realized she loved hiking all the way to the top and continued doing this as a sport every summer.

  • Roney De La Cruz, one of our guias from Camina Conmigo. Roney is from México City & has lived in Jackson, Wyoming since 1999. He moved here with his wife Miriam, who is also the founder and guía for Camina Conmigo. They started their family here and now have two children who were born and raised in Jackson. Roney has always been an active soccer player, even playing professionally in Mexico’s soccer league. After playing for many years and dealing with a few injuries, he discovered hiking. He found this passion on a hike to ski lake with Miriam and Norma in 2020.

  • Mirella Susano Garcia, one of our Guias from Camina Conmigo. Mirella is from Hueyotlipan, Tlaxcala Mexico & has lived in Jackson, Wyoming for 15 years. She Moved to Jackson with her husband Pedro, who is also one of our guias. For the first few years all they ever did was work two jobs and go home. After her second child started to attend CLC, she met Roney De La Cruz. He always invited there family to go on hiking trips with them. But, Mirella was always scared to go out and hike or go camping. One day, she finally decided to join them on one hike. That's when she realized there was more out there than just work and fear. Mirella is now thriving and is leading harder excursions than she would have ever imagined. She has never felt so secure of herself in leading outdoor activities with her family/participants.

  • Pedro Popocatl Diaz, one of our Guias from Camina Conmigo. Pedro is from Santiago Tlalpan Tlaxcala, Mexico & has lived in Jackson, Wyoming for 15 years with wife Mirella and their two children. Pedro got involved with his wife, Mirella, when Roney invited them to go hiking. He is one of our most fun guias to be around. Pedro has made it his goal to keep growing in this sport and nothing will stop him now from going out and exploring.

  • Abby is a dedicated and passionate guide of Camina Conmigo. Originally from California, Abby has made Jackson, Wyoming her home for the past four years. Her journey with Camina Conmigo began when she spotted a flyer and heard the inspiring stories about the group. With a decade of hiking experience under her belt, Abby has embarked on numerous outdoor adventures, including a memorable week-long camping trip in the Teton Range. Her enthusiasm for the great outdoors is not just a personal passion; Abby is deeply committed to empowering others. She thrives on making the outdoors accessible and enjoyable for everyone, teaching and sharing the knowledge she's accumulated over the years. Abby's love for nature and her commitment to nurturing a welcoming, inclusive outdoor community embodies the spirit of Camina Conmigo.

  • Jose Manuel Corona Vazquez is originally from Tlaxcala, México, and has been living in Jackson since 2014. When he first got here, he didn't really know any of the places around because he used to only work and come back home. That was his routine for every day until he found out about Coombs and he decided to sign up his kid for skiing. A year later Coombs organized a ski program for parents that he decided to join, and since then he has been part of Coombs Outdoors and really likes the experience. When Maggie asked him to join Camina Conmigo in 2023, he thought he was going to be part of the program to explore and follow others. But then Maggie asked him if he wanted to be a guide and show others. He took the opportunity, trained to be a guide, and has now been a guide for over 10 months and really loves the experience. Through his time with Camina Conmigo, he has learned to love exploring new places and showing other people how fun and exciting nature is! He still has a lot of places to explore, and really hopes he can keep on finding places that feel magical and sharing them with other people.
