ACTIVATE

Our Activate programs are where it all begins for Coombs participants. Introductory programs provide kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade the opportunity to try a variety of different outdoor activities designed to spark excitement, foster creativity, and build comfort in outdoor settings from a young age. They also serve as much-needed childcare for working families and give kids a chance to get active and away from electronic devices. From ski lessons at Snow King to paddle days at Rendezvous Park, our Activate programs introduce 200+ kids to the outdoors every year.

Learn-to-Ski

Snow King Mountain Ski School

Coombs participants receive weekly ski or snowboard lessons at Snow King Mountain from December through March. Lessons are designed to introduce new winter athletes to the sport of their choice.

Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club NGS

Interested Coombs participants are invited to join the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club’s introductory progression, Next Generation Skiers (NGS). Through NGS, Coombs athletes are exposed to more challenging terrain at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Coombs winter programs are made possible with support from the Share Winter Foundation.

Nordic Skiing

Ositos After-School Nordic Ski Program

The Ositos afterschool Nordic program is an opportunity for Coombs participants grades 3-5 to learn the basics of Nordic skiing and have fun, structured, outdoor time after school. The Nordic program is a partnership between the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club and Coombs staff.

Summer Camp

Activate Day Camp

At Activate camp, elementary school participants spend their summer days outside trying out new outdoor activities, spending time playing with friends, and learning to be comfortable in nature. Campers go hiking in Grand Teton National Park, explore Bridger-Teton National Forest, paddleboard and swim on local lakes and rivers, try rock climbing, make arts & crafts, and more. Our camps include a one-night car camping trip for 4-5th graders, which is a powerful new experience for most participants.

Spring Break

Coombs offers a spring break day camp, providing fun local activities while school is out and parents are still working.

Swim Lessons

Coombs swim lessons fill an important need for our families. In this shoulder season after-school program, elementary school participants learn the basics of how to be safe and comfortable in the water.

Activate Afterschool

Our fall afterschool programs fill an important need for our families, serving as childcare for parents and as an opportunity for kids learn important skills, stay active, and have fun with their peers.

Coombs afterschool programs, including Ositos, swimming lessons, and Engage workshops, are supported with funding from the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole.

We believe that every human is an athlete - but that society and access to the resources to play outside aren’t available to everyone. Working with Coombs is an opportunity for us to live up to our belief that being an athlete, playing outside and discovering your physical gifts is a human right, Coombs helps us make that idea a reality.
— Zahan Billimoria, Founder of Samsara Mountain Experience

Meet Luna Carillo

Luna, a 3rd grader at Munger Mountain Elementary School, has been part of Coombs programs for three years. When it comes to Coombs, Luna does it all! Just this year, Luna participated in Activate summer camp, fall afterschool programs, our Ositos nordic skiing program, and learn-to ski at Snow King. Luna loves catching frogs, swimming at R Park, and shredding at Snow King!

“I can’t decide whether I like summer or winter better; both of them are good in different ways. I like the cold and the heat. I just like being outside”
- Luna, Activate Participant
