K-5 Grade: Activate!

We activate kids from K-5th grade through entry-level instructional activities, such as a learn to ski program in the winter, a summer outdoor adventure program, Forest Friends, and our summer soccer camp. At this stage, the focus is on introducing kids to a variety of activities to spark a passion for the outdoors.

Snow King Mountain Ski School – grades K-5

Coombs participants receive weekly ski or snowboard lessons at Snow King Mountain from December through March. Lessons are designed to introduce new winter athletes to the sport of their choice.

Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club NGS - grades 3-5

Coombs participants who are interested in competitive skiing and snowboarding are invited to join the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club’s introductory progression, Next Generation Skiers (NGS). Through NGS, Coombs athletes ski at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, where they are exposed to more challenging terrain.

Community Soccer Camp - grades 1-9

Community Soccer Camp is a multi-week soccer camp for youth ages 7-16 with diverse backgrounds and skill levels. CSC provides youth the opportunity to play and improve their soccer skills while making lasting friendships, acquiring critical leadership skills, learning to work hard, and having fun.

Forest Friends Outdoor Adventures – grades K-5

Each week throughout the summer, the Forest Friends groups venture out into Jackson’s surrounding public lands for supervised, self-driven exploration. The goal of the program is for the participants to be outside, away from electronics, and to learn to be comfortable in nature. Forest Friends goes hiking in Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest as well as whitewater rafting and rock climbing.

Middle School: Engage!

We engage middle school youth through mentor-based recreational activities. While we continue with the same activities, we add a critical mentoring element. Through a cohort-based mentoring model, our youth build deep relationships with their peers and trusted adults as they enter the minefield of middle school.

Powder Pals at Teton Village

Powder Pals provides the opportunity for Coombs participants who have gained a solid foundation in snow sports through our introductory program at Snow King or JHSC’s NGS program to recreate at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, under the supervision of trained volunteer mentors. Participants of Powder Pals meet weekly for free skiing with a group of youth with similar skill-levels throughout the winter.

BeREAL Outdoor Adventures

BeREAL provides youth with mentorship through meaningful outdoor experiences that instill leadership skills and confidence in the outdoors and life. Throughout the summer months, Coombs participants experience an array of different outdoor activities and ways to interact with nature while engaging in meaningful role-model relationships to help navigate a transitional time in their lives.

BeREAL Mentoring and Leadership Program

All middle school youth  involved in our summer and winter programming also participate in our BeReal Mentoring and Leadership Program. Throughout the year, participants attend weekly evening workshops where both technical topics like map reading and Leave No Trace are covered as well as life topics like communication and leadership skills. They develop lasting relationships with their peers and adult role.

High School: Empower!

We empower high school youth through leadership training, internships, and continued outdoor recreation. Our high school youth serve as CO-mentors to our younger kids, explore careers and college, participate in internships, and continue to participate in a variety of outdoor adventures.

Powder Pals CO-mentors and BeReal CO-mentors

Coombs participants who have participated in the program through the end of middle school are invited to apply to be CO-mentors for both winter and summer programs. In the winter, CO-mentors work alongside the volunteer mentors to guide Powder Pals participants at JHMR and in the summer they help co-lead Forest Friends outings. Youth gain skills like group management, leadership, and basic teaching practices.

Community Soccer Camp Coaches in Training

Youth who have come up through the CSC ranks are invited to apply to become Coaches in Training. They are trained in basic coaching and leadership skills.
